Course Description & Lesson Notes

Official Video Description:

Here are three short animations which use a Python wrapper to execute the Graphviz Dot runtime. The wrapper accesses Blender's API, 'bpy', and a Graphviz API module, 'gv.python3'. They worked with the input text files to position and animate node labels for rendering. With initial node label content in plain text in Graphviz Dot format, the input file described only the graph's nodes and edges. This implementation needed nodes' explicit positions to be set up by Graphviz for the code to work in Blender. It used the Graphviz xdot graph layout descriptions generated by 'dot -Txdot "$infile.dot" -o "$outfile.dot" '. The background image in the animation, from about 17 seconds in, was from https://altphotos.com/ (CC0). The audio was from https://freesound.org/people/klankbeeld/ (also CC0). The clips were concatenated and encoded in MKV format video using ffmpeg.
