Many times I've seem images of medieval bindings (both original and reproductions), bereft of their leather coverings, whose raised cords were wrapped up tight and tidy, almost like endbands. Just as often I've wondered how it was done. Never having found any instructions on the method, called 'packed' sewing, I set out to figure it out for myself. The results were, how should I say... mixed. You can judge for yourself how I did, and hopefully have a bit of fun at my expense. Enjoy my frustration!
